Our baby that is due in mid April!

I had the early down syndrome screening on Monday and everything looks great. They look for the development of the nasal cavity and they measure the membrane at the base of the spinal cord. They also took blood which they send to New York for special testing. Of course the best part was I got to see our new little one. Justin couldn't go so my mom went with me. I told him he really missed out as they took some 3-D shots of the baby!

The 3-D shots look really great on the screen but printed out they remind me of "clay-mations". Here you can see the baby has its hands up by its eyes. You can also see the legs and feet at the bottom, although they look fairly shot due to the angle:

Here's a side shot where the arms are up by the ears. Covering it's ears to me already? This is not a good sign :) And you can see the little legs in this picture better.

And really, what's a post on this blog without a shot of my little cutie pie with my big cutie pie? This is right after he got his cast off. It's funny: he wakes up every morning and points down to his leg and says "off?!" as if he's in disbelief that it's actually off! I'm hoping it NEVER has to go back on!!!

Cast Update

Just a quick update to let everyone know Noah got his cast off this afternoon. I was late to the appointment so I missed the actual "sawing" of the cast (thank God, I would have cried as much as I heard he did). I walked in as they were returning from x-ray, Noah still in the late sob stages from the "saw". We had to wait a little while for the PA to come in and discuss his x-ray. Brian, the PA, told us that what Noah had was a typical toddler break, a spiral fracture on his tibia. I would love to take that information back to the first doctor that grilled us on how the fracture happened and then proceeded to do a full body x-ray.

We are happy to report that his leg is healing well. Brian pointed out that it is important to remember that he's still healing, not healed, and Noah needs to take it easy on the leg for a while. Bummer, I guess he'll just have to spend some more time cuddling with his mommy! (No complaints here!)

Pictures hopefully to follow. Our little guy had a long day- a no-nap day at "Nana's" preceded the doctors appointment and then afterwards we went to Uno's pizza and to Babies-R-Us- we bought bed rails so over Thanksgiving Break Noah can transition to a "big-boy bed"!

New Noah Pics

Noah's doing pretty well with his leg, this weekend he even started trying walking. It's really awkward because he can't bend his ankle but it's encouraging that he's trying it. He had a little virus last week. On Wednesday he had a fever of 102 and that continued through Friday night. His cousins spent the night that night and it was obvious that he wasn't feeling well, he didn't even want to play with them. But, his fever must have broke that night as he was feeling a lot better in the morning, he loved having pancakes with them and playing with them before they had to go.

New Cast

Justin took Noah to his appointment today at Children's. The doctor agreed with the initial xray read that Noah does have a fracture on his right tibia but it's pretty small. They put him in a cast that he will wear for three weeks. After that time they will assess his leg and see if he needs to be fitted for a boot. Justin said the doctor told Noah he would get to pick the color of his cast and J said Noah very clearly answered "red!" What a goof, he LOVES red! He also has a little shoe that fits over the cast. This is in case he decided to walk so he has some traction and will not slip and fall. We'll keep you posted on the progress of his healing leg!

Picture Day Disaster

So, we had an appointment on Saturday to get Noah's 2 year pictures taken. We did not make that appointment but Noah still had pictures taken- they just weren't as enjoyable.

Saturday morning before breakfast Noah and I were in the living room and I was talking to my mom on the phone. Justin was in the kitchen making batter for waffles. Noah walks around the dining room table and falls. As he falls Justin and I both her an audible "snap", like the sound of a tree limb breaking. I got off the phone with my mom and picked him up. Justin took him and we tried to have him stand but his little leg just quivered when we tried to put him down. Justin and I frantically dress, I throw some cereal in a bag for Noah and we head over to urgent care. Luckily they see us right away. They give Noah some motrin for pain and take x-rays. Some how when he fell he fractured his tibia. Thank goodness it's just a small fracture and he's young so it should heal quickly. Because this particular urgent care has had two fatal cases of child abuse come through I think they are extra cautious when children come in with injuries, and rightfully so. So, the doctor orders a full body x-ray. Nothing we're worried about, we are loving parents and the only thing we physically do to our son is give him hugs, kisses, bathes and lotion him. To our surprise the doctor comes back and asks if Noah has ever broken his wrist. What?! Are you kidding me, Noah has a healing fracture on his wrist (common in toddlers) that we never knew about?! In addition, he has physical therapy and speech therapy once a week and neither of these people noticed this!

We have to make an appointment this week with the pediatric orthopedic at children's hospital for Noah. I'm hoping that it was just an unfortunate fall and that nothing is wrong with his bones, especially after hearing about the wrist fracture that we NEVER knew about! Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers this week!

He's got a split that is made of fiberglass that goes along the back of his leg and bottom of his foot. We can take it off to bath him, which is nice but he's pretty sensitive when this is done:

The only good thing about this is because he can't walk he was a perfect spectator at the labor day parade in Louisville today. Here he is waiting for the parade:

Thank goodness for cousins! We were over at Aaron & Janis's house on Sunday evening to watch the CU/CSU game. He loves his girls and wants to be with them. He wasn't about to let the splint slow him down so he had to figure out how to move his leg to get where he wanted to go and how to mover from sitting and crawling. And of course, as usual, Mary and Ellie were super sweet with him! They gave him lots of TLC and attention. Here they are playing "scarves":

Two Years Old Today!!!!!

My baby boy is 2 years old today!!!! Wow, how he's grown!

And there's more cake to come, his birthday party is this Sunday. His Auntie Jan is baking a bus cake. We've already seen and tried her practice cake, it's going to be great! With the exception that we can't get the birthday boy to touch cake! So, we'll have plenty of M&Ms on hand!

I actually got to spend all day with him today. He was up last night with a runny nose and had a hard time sleeping so I thought it best not to infect the other little boy that he's around during the day. I hope he feels better tomorrow but I have to admit I won't complain if I get to spend another day home with him!

Back to School

Well, we survived our first week back to school- but that's not saying we liked it!!!

Actually, I had really great classes, with the exception on one and the principal has decided that some students in that class need to be separated so that grade level will soon be rearranged. We'll see, the grade that I'm talking about has been a "challenging" class, to say the least, since they were small little kindergartners.

I think Noah's adjusting well to his new daycare situation. He still cries in the morning when I leave but when Justin or I pick him up he doesn't want to leave. I've seen some changes in him, especially today. He ate all of his breakfast and did really well at lunch and he started going down the stairs standing up rather than sitting down! We'll see what else he learns next week! It's so hard to believe that he will be 2 on Thursday, where did those two years go?
